Welcome to the City of Lewiston's Safety
Program web site. As "Work Together; Work Safe" is Lewiston's theme to
advocate for injury free work environments, we maintain a
multi-faceted safety program, which includes ongoing training and
on-site inspections. Please enjoy the site, and please feel free to

March 2003 saw a winning entry in the City's safety logo contest.
Ideas submitted by Dave Gudas, Lewiston's Personal Computer
Coordinator, served as the foundation for the final product. Dave
is pictured here at the March 18, 2003, City Council meeting where
a recognition certificate & $50 local restaurant certificate were
presented to him by Safety Coordinator Bill Stretton. Denis Jean,
Human Resources Director, highlighted the City's efforts to reduce
human suffering from workplace injury, as well as reduce workers
compensation costs. City Administrator Jim Bennett also echoed
those goals during the presentation. |

The following graphs depict workers
compensation losses for the City of Lewiston for the last three years,
which encompass medical payments & lost time wages (indemnity).
We are pleased to report that we have seen a
huge decline in such losses in 2003!
The areas visually graphed are: Administration; Department of Public
Works; Fire Department; Parks & Recreation; Police Department; School;
and Water.
