Stormwater Phase II Program
Did you know?
Stormwater pollution is the leading cause of water quality problems in the State
of Maine.
(Take our quick Rainwater Quiz)
What is Stormwater Pollution?
Stormwater falls on paved areas and picks up pollutants such as pet waste,
litter, chemicals and even food products that have been spilled. Stormwater
carries these pollutants untreated into the Androscoggin River and other local
waterbodies like Andrews Pond and No Name Pond. The City of Lewiston is working
to prevent stormwater pollution.
What is the City doing to help?
The City has prepared a 5-year plan to protect stormwater from becoming
polluted. Every year, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection requires
that the City report on their progress in implementing the plan, and update the
plan to better protect stormwater. Each annual Report provides an updated 5-year
plan and describes the progress made for the year.
