The Engineering
Division plans, surveys, prepares, designs and provides construction supervision
and inspection services for the maintenance of the municipal infrastructure.
The infrastructure includes buildings,
sewers, drains, water distribution system, bridges, pumping stations, streets
and parks.
The Engineering Division is
also responsible for the City Geographic Information System, or GIS.
The GIS is a computerized
mapping system which links mapped land features to city databases. It serves an
important role as the infrastructure inventory, modeling and management system
for the drinking water, sewer, and storm utility districts. Parcels, zoning,
street pavement, pump stations, parks and dozens of other essential data are
also mapped and managed with GIS. The GIS also serves an equally vital role as
the backbone for the city EnerGov land management system.
For many the GIS is utilized to
interactively view, query, analyze and print maps, both in the office and in the
field. It also serves the public a valuable service via the
City GIS Portal web
based applications.
