LYAC to Announce "Underage Drinking Awareness Initiative

PRESS RELEASE: February 07, 2007

On Monday, February 12th, at 2:45 p.m., members of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council will announce details of their recently developed underage drinking awareness initiative--to include the effort's name and logo. The press conference will be held in the Council Chambers at Lewiston City Hall, 27 Pine Street.

After brainstorming amongst themselves and meeting with Jessica Maurer from the Attorney General's Office, Wendy Tardif of Healthy Androscoggin, and Lewiston High School Substance Abuse Counselor Vicky Wiegman, LYAC has been working on an initiative to be a positive role model to other youth in regards to underage drinking, especially to 8th graders transitioning into high school.

The press conference will provide details of the LYAC initiative and will also "debut" a "Thoughts About Underage Drinking" video LYAC recently filmed and then edited with the assistance of Great Falls TV. Speakers at the press event will include LYAC members, LYAC Liaison Councilor Norm Rousseau, Northeast Bank President James Delamater, and local businessman Nick Knowlton.
