The
Director of the Center for Disease Control & Prevention and Maine's Chief
Health Officer, Dora A. Mills, MD, MPH, will address City of Lewiston
municipal employees on Tuesday, October 3, 2006,
as part of the City's wellness program focusing on
preventative care and healthy lifestyles.
Denis R. Jean, Human Resources Director, stated the
following,"We regularly provide the opportunity for our employees to
learn more about health-related topics, and we are honored to have Dr. Mills
share her vast knowledge and insight with us."
Mills will be focusing on two topics while in
Lewiston, that of "Bird Flu" and
"Obesity."
Mills is a native of Maine and a graduate of
Bowdoin College, the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Children's
Hospital of Los Angeles Internship and Residency Program, and the Harvard
School of Public Health. She practiced medicine in Tanzania, East Africa,
Los Angeles, and Farmington, Maine, before assuming her current position in
1996 as the Director of the Maine Bureau of Health and as Maine's Chief
Health Officer.
Mills is also a published author, lecturer, and the
recipient of numerous awards to include the Maine Public Health
Association's Presidents' Award in 2005 for her leadership in public health.
