PRESS RELEASE: June 28, 2006
The City of Lewiston has been awarded a
Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial
Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United
States & Canada (GFOA)
in regards to its comprehensive FY 2005 annual
financial report.
The Certificate Program, which was established in
1945, is designed to recognize and encourage excellence in financial
reporting by state and local governments.
Touted
as the highest form of recognition for such accounting/reporting, attainment
of the award represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its
management.
Council President Renee Bernier presented the award
to Finance Director Richard T. Metivier and Deputy Finance Director Heather
Hunter at the June 27, 2006, Lewiston City Council Meeting.
Bernier noted,
"The City's financial report met the GFOA program's high standards, to
include demonstrating a 'spirit of full disclosure' clearly communicating
Lewiston's financial picture."
City Administrator James A. Bennett added,
"Dick, Heather, and the entire Finance team are to be commended for
the exemplary work that they consistently do. The recognition is well
deserved, and this award is a very fitting testament to the professional
expertise of Lewiston's employees."
GFOA is the professional association of
state/provincial and local finance officers in the United States and Canada
and has served the public finance profession since 1906. More than 16,500
GFOA members are dedicated to the sound management of government financial
resources.
