Welcome to the Lewiston Auburn Lead Program Website!

In May 2009, the Cities received grant funding in the amount of $2.2 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  The Cities will match and/or leverage this money with an additional  $1 million to reduce lead hazards in the Lewiston-Auburn communities over a three year period.

  • The Community Development Departments of Lewiston and Auburn are working together to:
  • Create 200 lead-safe housing units by using interim control and lead abatement and eradicate lead hazards in downtown housing stock
  • Increase awareness of lead poisoning and screen young children between 0-6
  • Educate landlords and train contractors in lead safe repair and renovation work
  • Educate tenants in proper cleaning techniques to keep their units free from lead-hazards
  • Create and maintain a registry of lead-safe housing units
