What Is An All-America City?

The All-America City Award is the oldest and most respected community recognition program within the nation. The year 2007 marks the National Civic League's 58th anniversary of bestowing the award, which recognizes communities whose residents work together to identify and tackle community-wide challenges and achieve measurable, uncommon results. A broad cross-section of the community is engaged in such initiatives, to include youth, business leaders, elected officials, city staff, and non-profit groups.

Annually, only ten cities are selected as All-America Cities. These communities exemplify the true American spirit at work, as their residents are actively committed to ensuring that their community is a safe, nurturing place to live.

Lewiston, Maine, is the first Maine city in 40 years to earn the distinction of All-America City, selected by a jury panel of national experts on local government and community affairs. Auburn, Maine, obtained the award in 1967.
